We believe that the foundation of an ethical and moral life begins with how we treat others. Our Humanist Sunday School is inspired by Felix Adler’s motto of “deed before creed.” By using community service as the basis for learning ethics, children develop vital critical thinking skills for understanding right from wrong – using real-world ethical issues like poverty, injustice and community responsibility.
Classes are held for children aged 5 to 13. Children of EHSLI members attend the program free of charge.
An experienced sitter cares for children under age 5. They enjoy collaborative play and story time.
After age 13, students move up into our teen group, Youth of Ethical Societies, or YES. They discuss and plan activities centering around one or two major issues of importance to them and participate in social action projects. The teens run the group themselves, with supervision from adult advisors.
