To care for anyone else enough
to make their problems one's own,
is ever the beginning of one's
real ethical development.

Honor Life’s Milestones

Life is full of milestones…some are cause for celebration, others, for sorrow. It is natural that we wish to join together to applaud, commemorate, support, or sustain loved ones during these transitional times.

Our experienced Ethical Humanist officiants are available on or off-site to lead weddings, memorials, funerals, baby namings, and other meaningful occasions. We welcome individuals, couples and families from all backgrounds to celebrate and reflect their commitment and common values.

Weddings

White flowers wedding decorationsAn Ethical Humanist wedding is sensitive to the personalities, values and wishes of each couple. Each ceremony is designed in collaboration with the couple to make sure that their special day is a true reflection of their values and commitment. Ethical Humanist officiants are authorized by New York State to perform weddings the same as any other clergy member or judge. We do not discriminate against same-sex couples.

Memorials and Funerals

The goal of every memorial or funeral is to honor the memory of the deceased in a loving and respectful way, tailoring the service to the needs of the family. Our officiants meet with family members to learn about the life of the deceased, to understand who this person was and what unique qualities this person brought to the world. The service itself is participatory. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories.

Baby Welocming

We are happy to conduct Baby Welcomings to introduce a new child to the human family. Parents play a key role in the ceremony, which is planned with the officiant according to their wishes. Family and friends frequently participate in these ceremonies – which can be as elaborate or as simple as desired.

Please contact us at office@ehsli.org or 516-741-7304 for more information or to request an officiant.
