To care for anyone else enough
to make their problems one's own,
is ever the beginning of one's
real ethical development.

Event

Alison Briceño: Using Books for Justice and Humanizing Approaches (Zoom)

19 Mar 2023 | 11:00 am

You are invited to join us to consider how books can serve as sources of learning toward justice and humanizing approaches toward our lives. We will address how different texts can serve as mirrors that reflect back our own lives, windows into others’ lives, and sliding glass doors that enable us to experience other worlds. We will reflect on implications for our lives and those we care about.

Dr. Allison Briceño is an Associate Professor in the Department of Teacher Education at San José State University, where she coordinates the Multilingual and Multicultural Literacy Education MA program. Her research explores the rich literacy practices of multilingual students and linguistically and culturally sustaining pedagogies. Her recent book, Conscious Classrooms: Using Diverse Texts for Inclusion, Equity, and Justice, is about using diverse children’s literature in the classroom.
