This reflection aims to communicate one working scientist’s practical and personal view of the Scientific Method.
Carl is a member and current VP of the Ethical Society of Northern Westchester. He and wife Maria Schmidt were members of the St Louis Ethical Society for about 12 years, during which their kids went all the way through the Sunday School and national youth groups (YES). Their son, Max, met his wife Maya, who grew up in the Washington Ethical Society, through YES. Daughter Alex was president of YES 2002-3 season, son Max VP 2003-4 (under the presidency of his future wife). Alex, Max, Maya and two or three other YES members were the founders of FES. Carl and Maria were involved in multiple committees in St. Louis, mostly related to Ethical Education. Carl was VP of the AEU 2001-2005. They were enthusiastic and deeply involved members of the Westside UU Church in Ft. Worth, TX from 2004-2013.
Professionally, Carl is a scientist, a biologist with a long standing interest in Ophthalmic Pharmacology. He was on the faculty of Washington University Medical School in St. Louis for 14 years. For the last 14, he has been working in the pharmaceutical industry laboring to do the science necessary to bring new medicines to patients. He is a dedicated amateur guitarist.
