Charlene Obernauer will discuss strategies towards gaining political power for working people in a divisive and dangerous world. Speaking from her experiences as an activist and political strategist, she will offer guidance on how to build power and campaigns that win.
Charlene Obernauer is a New York City activist and political strategist who has built her career around workers’ rights, women’s rights, and economic justice. She is currently the Executive Director of the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health and is a former Executive Director of Long Island Jobs with Justice. Obernauer has heralded legislation for construction safety training in New York City, nail salon workers’ rights in New York State, and increased funding for buses on Long Island. She believes intersectionality, or incorporating a race, class, and gender analysis is essential to effective social justice campaigns.
