Join Susan Gottehrer, the Director of the Nassau County New York Civil Liberties Union and member of the Nassau County Jail Advocates on DATE, for an informational afternoon, where she will share the history of the Nassau County Jail, it’s current conditions, and discuss restorative justice and re-entry programs aimed at reducing recidivism and rates of incarceration.
Susan Gottehrer is the Director of the Nassau County New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York State affiliate of the ACLU, and has been a life-long activist and part of the New York Civil Liberties family since 2006. She has done extensive lobbying on federal, state and local legislation, has led advocacy efforts to improve public defense in New York State, clean up conditions at the Nassau County jail, and encourage police reform in Nassau County. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Columbia University, a Master’s in Political Science from the New School for Social Research, and a Master’s in Public Administration/Policy Analysis from New York University. She teaches graduate courses in Government and Radical Social Movements at Pace University and Long Island University, has eight years of Public Relations experience, and has coached youth in creative problem solving competitions. Susan brings a perfect storm of strategic communications, public education, organizing, and policy experience to the civil liberties challenges of Nassau County.
