The winter solstice has been a seasonal phenomenon of deep significance throughout the northern hemisphere. Mythological explanations arose in the different cultures pitting light against the darkness. With Hanukkah beginning on December 2, we explored the differences and similarities in cultural responses to the death and the rebirth of the sun.
