Currently live in Glen Head, NY, but originally from Brooklyn, NY
Member of EHSLI Since 2014
I retired from teaching almost 14 years go so that I could explore other interests and wander the world. I was very lucky to be able to take the time to follow that path. I have always been interested in writing, theater, journalism, fashion and art. I pursued my love for acting and took roles in community theater on Long Island. Eventually I started experimenting with paint and mixed media. I signed up for classes at The Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn. After awhile, I attended an independent advanced painting class with well-known Long Island artist, Stan Brodsky. Under his mentorship, I applied for a residency at the Vermont Studio Center. My determination to complete a work of art during my first two week session led to a tapestry-like dreamscape, measuring 17 1/2’LX 5’W, which I named The Adventures of Gingerella. It was quite impressive. The theme of this dreamscape was compassion, peace and empathy. I was motivated to publish the book, which is available on amazon.com. The Adventures of Gingerella (a Fable, an Opera) is the musical which I produced in 2018, starring Alicia Evans, David Geddam and Kelly Schmidt as Associate Musical Director and Co-Composer.
Apart from my artwork, I am an avid traveler. I have been to many exotic places all over the world. My trips to Africa, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Cuba, and most recently, to Japan have all found places in my art. My travel allows me to view the cultures and people of the world and inspires much my art. I live with my husband, Hal and Labradoodle Barney.

Why are you a member of EHSLI?
I have been searching all my life for a philosophy or theory that most closely resonates the things I believe in and EHSLI comes closest. The essence of its teachings are based on humanism and helping, but neither overly intellectual nor didactic. The people are open and inviting. I feel safe and accepted. We are all together.
