Member of EHSLI since 12017
I am a retired NYC teacher. I taught at the elementary school level for 34 years and really loved it. I became a widow in December of 2018. I have 2 sons and 4 grandchildren, soon to be 5.
What’s your favorite movie/book/play and why?
My favorite show has always been West Side Story. I love the music and the dancing. A couple of books I remember loving from reading with my book group are “Hillbilly Elegy” by J.D. Vance and “Where The Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens. I have many movies that I’ve loved through the years, “Singin’ In The Rain,” being one of them.
If you were having your last meal on earth what would it be?
I would have to choose anything Italian.
What do you do in your spare time? (e.g., hobbies or other volunteer work)
My passion, besides my beautiful grandchildren, is dance. I have been dancing all my life and now, I’m happy to say, I have belonged to a performing tap dance group for 10 years called The Red Hot Mamas. It is the best for my body, my brain, and my well-being. I also love to read.
What is your favorite thing to do on a weekend?
Movies, dinner out with friends, or just hanging out at home. Also, any time spent with my children and grandchildren.
What is your ideal vacation?
I’ve been to many different places in the world. I’ve always preferred interesting cities rather than sitting on beach somewhere.
Why are you a member of EHSLI?
I started going to meetings with my husband. He used to belong when he was younger and rediscovered the Society. I found myself being drawn to a group of people who believe in the same things as I do. It’s a very comforting feeling.
